Austin Byrd holds a Bachelor’s of Music and Master’s of Music in Jazz Studies from the University of North Texas and is a recipient of the Downbeat Student Music Award in 2013 for his work with Laura Otero’s Colombian Jazz project.
He has performed with Arturo Sandoval, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Eric Marienthal, Greg Osby, Francisco Torres, Marshall Gilkes, Tom Kubis, Ron Stout, Tierney Sutton, and many others. He has also toured the United States, Canada, Japan, and Australia with the Glenn Miller Orchestra, and has performed at the Java Jazz Festival in Jakarta, Indonesia and the Montreal Jazz Festival with various groups.
Austin has composed or arranged music for Nova Real Estate, Slowburn Big Band, Skip Spiro’s Little Big Band, the Kevin Hicks Quartet, as well as multiple Downbeat award winning vocal jazz ensembles Singcopation and Frontline at Mt. San Antonio College, where he works as jazz accompanist.
